Short Story Month & a Few Freebies
I’ve always been a fan of short fiction. There are few things better than reading about characters that breathe in a storyline that packs an emotional punch, and all within a few short minutes. I continue to this day to purchase short story collections and study the format.

Stories make the world go ’round … (and ’round and ’round)
One of my favorite short stories is titled “Last Breath,” written by Joe Hill and found in his collection 20th Century Ghosts. It’s as close to perfect as you’re going to find. Another short story that has stayed with me since I read it years ago is titled “Symbios,” by Joe Konrath. It takes you on a journey but completely flips your expectations, quite brilliantly. Last year my favorite short story collection was Wastelands, stories all centered around some type of dystopian apocalypse. Some amazing tales in this anthology — definitely worth checking out. And one of my favorite short reads from this year is by Michael Patrick Hicks, titled “Revolver,” a great depiction of a potential dystopian future that could be all too real.
In celebration of Short Story Month, I’m offering a chance for readers to check out a few of my own stories for free.

I’m also putting together a special story that will be released ONLY to fans and those who have signed up for my newsletter.
This is my way of saying thank you for your support! It’s called “Patterns,” and toes the line between dark fantasy and literary fiction. It’s a special story, and I’m excited to see what you think of this new tale.
If you haven’t signed up yet, you can do so here. I’ll be sending out the story in both PDF and mobi formats before the end of the month to all subscribers.
So what are some of your favorite short stories? What tales have stayed with you over the years? Share them here and with others and celebrate this form of fiction writing this month.
